The Joy of Giving

Adapted from moral stories26.com

One day a teacher and a student took a walk.  After walking for a while, they came upon a pair of old, torn shoes that seemed to belong to a poor farmer who had just finished a hard day of working in the fields.

The student thought it would be funny to hide the shoes behind the bushes and watch the farmer’s reaction when he couldn’t find his shoes.

The teacher told the student it was not good to play such a cruel joke on a poor person. He told the student a better idea would be to put some coins in each of his shoes, hide behind the bushes, and watch the farmer’s reaction.

When the farmer felt something hard in his shoes, he checked to see what it was and found the coins. Upon seeing the coins, he became emotional, and tears came to his eyes.

He folded his hands and looked toward the sky and said: "O God, a thousand thanks to the unknown person who has helped me in my time of need." "Now I will be able to buy medicine for my sick wife and food for my children."

The student’s eyes filled with tears upon hearing the farmer’s prayer of thanks.

The teacher asked the student, "Which would have made you happier, hiding his shoes or seeing him find the coins in them?"

The student, with tears in his eyes, replied that the joy of giving is limitless. Helping others makes us happy as well as them.

In the true spirit of the holiday season, and every day of the year, selfless and random acts of kindness is a gift that fills the hearts of others with peace and joy.

Wishing you a white Christmas! (And when you run out of white, just open a bottle of red.)

ACC Corner – Joe Rochel, ACC Chairperson

I hope everyone in Carolina Shores had a wonderful Holiday and a safe, Happy New Year. Welcome to this New Year of 2023.

The ACC is working to get some of the new homes closed in January.

I thank all the homeowners that have complied with the requests to make corrections from the violation letters they received last year. Please note, the first letter is a COURTESY letter and reminds a homeowner that there is an issue of the Rules and Regulations (R&R) and/or the Declaration of Restrictions (DoR) regarding their home. You need to respond to the CSPOA office as requested in the letter to let the ACC know that you corrected the situation or will be correcting it. The ACC Committee is here to assist and help each homeowner to comply with the R&R and the DoR. Many homeowners last year have responded within the seven (7) days as stated on the violation letter. Many were pleasantly surprised to discover we do help, and in some cases meet with the homeowner to discuss the issue. The first letter of violation is to remind the homeowner about helping to maintain the community as a beautiful place to live, as well as, keeping our property values the best they can be.

All the CSPOA/ACC are volunteers from the Carolina Shores community. Please respect their time as neighbors. Remember we are always here to help and assist. We look forward to being of service to everyone.

A note on fence enclosures around the HVAC exterior units and the propane tanks as well as the outside generators. They all must have a fence around them that are required to be attached to posts anchored into the ground. There are many that are free standing and that is not approved. These free-standing fences can easily blow into your neighbor’s yard or home. Please check your units this month so you can make the corrections.

As of January 1, 2023, all tree removals and repairs to your home need a permit from the CSPOA office. Any work performed on the exterior of your home needs a permit; failure to get a permit from the ACC will result in a fine.

JOE’S SAYING: “HELP ME HELP YOU”.

I would like to update this list. As of now, there are 59 people who had let me know they would be available to help with neighbors’ needs at times. I get few responses, mostly from the same 3-4 people. So, if you no longer wish to be on this list, please text me at 910-368-1070 or email me at dfp324@atmc.net

If you would like to stay on this list and would prefer to get notifications by email instead of through Nextdoor, please email me at dfp324@atmc.net and I will send out a group email when someone needs help in our community.

If you need help, please continue to let me know by calling the above number or my home at 910-575-6243.

Flo Pflaster

We have many volunteers on the Care Team, ready and willing to help our neighbors with temporary assistance. I will do whatever I can to find someone to help - all you need to do is call or email me!
